US 377: what TxDOT and Hood County found
A 2021 TxDOT corridor analysis found that 33% of fatal crashes on US 377 happened between Stephenville and Granbury, and that 55% of US 377 has a crash rate above the statewide average (City of Granbury, US 377 corridor update). Hood County’s 2025 Master Thoroughfare Plan names US 377, SH 144, Fall Creek Hwy and Old Granbury Rd among locations of frequent crashes. TxDOT plans to rebuild US 377 through Granbury as a six-lane road with a raised median from Pirate Dr to Overstreet Blvd (TxDOT).
Crash counts include only police-reported crashes with an injury or at least $1,000 in damage. They aren't adjusted for how much traffic each road carries.

How to get a Granbury crash report
Granbury Police handle crashes inside city limits; on county roads and highways outside the city, the report may come from Texas DPS or the Hood County Sheriff’s Office. Reports are sold through TxDOT's Crash Report Online Purchase System (CRIS) for $6, or $8 for a certified copy, and officers have 10 days to file them. See the crash report guide.
Why distraction makes these roads worse
Busy roads mix turning, merging and stopping traffic, and a few seconds of distraction is enough for a crash.

How this analysis was done, and its limits
Original analysis of TxDOT CRIS data, 2021–2025, Granbury and the area within 15 miles of the city limits. We used TxDOT CRIS crash-level records for 2021–2025 from the counties in and around Granbury, removed duplicate crash IDs, and grouped crashes by location: Granbury and the area within 15 miles of its city limits, roads in Granbury or within 5 miles of its city limits, and crashes coded inside Granbury city limits. An injury crash is one with a fatal, serious, minor or possible injury (CRIS severity K, A, B or C). Deaths and serious injuries are the totals of the CRIS count fields. Road names were cleaned up so highway codes read as plain names (for example, IH0820 becomes I-820). Intersections count only crashes where police recorded a cross street.
- CRIS includes only police-reported crashes with an injury or at least $1,000 in damage.
- Counts aren't adjusted for traffic volume, so busy highways naturally rank high.
- 2025 data may still be incomplete.
- Neighboring cities' areas overlap, so the same crash can count for more than one city.
- Freeway "intersections" are whole interchanges, including frontage roads.
